My copy of The Rembrandt Affair by Daniel Silva is now ready at the library, and I can't wait to start it. This continues his series on Gabriel Allon who is a Mossad agent that has a cover of an art restorer. This is his 10th book featuring Gabriel. I compare Daniel's books to Robert Ludlum.

I am reading a new book but realized I missed a book or 2 in-between just from reading this one. I need to get the other ones. 92 Pacific Boulevard, A Cedar Cove Novel by Debbie Macomber. I love her style of writing!

I finished the Ted Dekker series: Black, Red, and White. I think there is a prequel.

I'm reading his book Three right now.

I'm also reading this book by Joyce Carol Oats called the Gravedigger's Daughter. I can't finish it though - so much profanity, very shocking extreme, disturbing situations. The way in which she weaves characters is fascinating - I can learn so much from her - I've never read anyone develop character with quite that much skill. But the book is really disturbing my spirit, so I'm going to return it to the library. I might try something else that she's written - she is quite gifted.

Wonder Tales from Baltic Wizards by Frances Jenkins Olcott. Folk tales from Lappland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. It's a children's book, but kinda fun, so far.

The Peshawar Lancers by SM Sterling. I've been curious about steampunk for a while, and this is the first such novel to come into my hands.

Dark Tide 1-Onslaught by Michael A. Stackpole

Is the Wheel of Time series any good? I read about it on Wikipedia, but I'd love to know whether it conflicts with Christianity and the Bible. If anyone could provide insight, it would be much appreciated!

Sorry it took so long to reply. Life has been busy.

In my opinion, The Wheel of Time is the best fantasy series since Lord of the Rings. In particular, Jordan's use of the third person limited viewpoint is masterful, his worldbuilding is rich, his characters and story arc are superb. The series does drag a little in the middle books, but that is a consequence of the complexity of the work. The beginning was very strong and the ending promises to be better.

Does it conflict with Christianity? That's a more complicated question.

Likely the biggest issue in the series is the sexuality of some of the characters. Half of the six main characters remain chaste until marriage, and two more have sex only with people they intend to marry. The actual sex is kept offscreen. There is a fair bit of non-sexual nudity in the series.

Jordan's attitude to faith isn't always clear. I suspect that when he planned and started the series he was a nominal Christian, but became much stronger in his faith toward the end of his life. But by then he was stuck with some of the characters and situations as he had plotted them earlier.

Hope this helps.

Addendum: The major issue would be reincarnation. That just slipped my mind. At least some people in WoT are reborn. It isn't clear how many or why, but at least the heroes live again.

I'm reading Johnny Tremayne by Esther Forbes. It's much, much, MUCH better than the Disney movie.

Reading "Necropolis" from the Gatekeepers series by Anthony Horowitz and "Lies" from the Gone series by Michael Grant.

Both are teen books. I prefer my daughter's books over adult books

I tried getting into the last two books over the last couple of days, but just couldn't. Thought I'd try an Amish story, seeing as I haven't read one in such a long time.

Finished Plain Truth - Jodi Picoult - started another of hers can't remember the title offhand, it has heart in it, seems a little like Green Mile, it's even mentioned in there.
